Missouri State Board of Nursing Executive Director Lori Scheidt elected NCSBN President

JEFFERSON CITY, MoMissouri State Board of Nursing Executive Director Lori Scheidt, MBA-HCM, has been elected president of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN), an organization supporting nursing regulatory bodies across the United States and internationally.

Scheidt has served as executive director of the Missouri State Board of Nursing for 25 years and has been extensively involved with NCSBN throughout her career, previously serving on 13 NCSBN committees, chairing three, and spending four years as vice chair of the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators Executive Committee.

“As president, my priority is to make sure nursing regulators have the tools, data and support they need to make sound decisions to protect the public,” Scheidt said. “NCSBN exists to support its member boards, and I look forward to working together to strengthen nursing regulation, remove unnecessary barriers and prepare our profession for the challenges ahead.”

During her tenure in Missouri, Scheidt has led the development of the state’s nurse workforce data system, helped eliminate the licensure fee for new nursing graduates and spearheaded Missouri’s nursing education grant program. She has also championed pathways to licensure for members of the military, including approval of the U.S. Air Force practical nurse program.

“For 25 years, Lori has worked to strengthen nursing regulation in Missouri while pursuing practical solutions that support nurses and protect patients,” Missouri Division of Professional Registration Director Sheila Solon said. “We are incredibly proud to see her bring that same leadership to NCSBN.”

“Lori’s election as NCSBN President reflects not only her commitment to public protection but the caliber of leadership we are fortunate to have here in Missouri,” Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance (DCI) Director Angela Nelson added. “Her experience and forward-thinking approach will now help shape the future of nursing regulation on a national level.”

NCSBN is an independent, not-for-profit organization that supports nursing regulators in their mission to protect public health, safety and welfare. Its membership includes nursing regulatory bodies in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, four U.S. territories and regulatory organizations in other countries and territories.

The Missouri State Board of Nursing is part of the Division of Professional Registration, a division of DCI. The board works to protect public health and safety through the regulation of nursing education, licensure and practice.
