MDC invites hunters to learn on-the-ground scouting and stand placement on conservation areas during MDC virtual program series

ROLLA, Mo.- Join Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) wildlife biologist Matthew Peter and Conservation Educator Dwight Warnke online to learn about deer hunting using MDC conservation areas in the Ozarks through a virtual series starting Sept. 30.  These virtual events will help participants obtain a higher success rate when hunting within MDC conservation areas.   

The event is open to participants who will be 18 years of age or older by Sept. 30. Registration is required. 

The following dates of the series are listed below:  

• Wednesday, Sept. 30, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Virtual Program: Deer Scouting Using Online Mapping. Registration required at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/off.  

• Monday, Oct.5, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Virtual Program: On the Ground Scouting & Stand Placement at MDC C.A.  Registration required at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ofg.  

• Wednesday, Oct.21, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Virtual Program: Movement Patterns of the Rut. Registration required at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ofd.  

• Monday, Nov.30, 5:30-6:30 p.m.: Virtual Program: Post Rut and Winter Deer Hunting. Registration required at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/ofW.  

In addition to the virtual series, MDC will also hold a deer processing workshop Saturday, Oct. 10 from 1-4 p.m. at the Rolla MDC office.  Join MDC staff and find out how to skin and process the deer you harvest this year. Learn the steps from skinning and deboning to packaging the venison for your freezer. Participants must be 11 years of age or older.
